UNITY OF GAITHERSBURG CORE VALUES

Spiritual Growth We at Unity of Gaithersburg believe that spiritual growth is the process of awakening to the truth that each of us is a unique expression of God. We strengthen our communion with God by deepening our understanding of Unity principles, letting go of limiting beliefs and surrendering to Divine inspiration in thought, word and action.
Unconditional Love
We at Unity of Gaithersburg believe unconditional love is the ever present Source from which all-good flows in and through our lives. Realizing and accepting our oneness with God, we extend love to all.
Spiritual Home
We at Unity of Gaithersburg provide a nurturing community where we join together safely to discover and live the truth of who we really are. We create this spiritual home by offering unconditional love, support, and encouragement to all.
Spiritual Family
We at Unity of Gaithersburg recognize that we are children of God who form a spiritual family. This common bond enables us to build authentic and trust-filled relationships. With the support of this family, we learn to take personal responsibility for what we think and the experiences we create.
Empowerment
We at Unity of Gaithersburg believe that empowerment is the expression of our divine birthright. Every experience we have provides an opportunity to accept more of God's presence in our lives. We empower ourselves by choosing to be individual expressions of God made manifest.
Giving and Receiving
We at Unity of Gaithersburg give and receive with an open heart aware that we live in an abundant universe. As we give, we receive from God's unlimited supply.
Christ-Based Principles
We at Unity of Gaithersburg embrace the practical spirituality of the principles taught and demonstrated by Jesus Christ. These Christ-based principles include loving God, loving others as ourselves and accepting our own divinity.
Joy
We at Unity of Gaithersburg experience and radiate joy as we center our awareness in God. We extend the joy that wells from within us through fellowship, worship, music and an infinite array of other expressions.

Unity’s Five Basic Teachings

There are five basic teachings that make up Unity’s approach to spirituality, the Bible, the teachings of Jesus, and our relationship with God. These teachings are not Creeds or Dogmas but are considered ideas and principles that provide a foundation for growth and awakening to a greater experience of God and God’s will for expanding good in our lives in the world. The teachings are:

First Teaching
God is the source and creator of all. There is no other enduring power. God is good and present everywhere.

Second Teaching
We are spiritual beings created in God's image. The spirit of God lives within each person; therefore, all people are inherently good.

Third Teaching
We create our life experiences through our way of thinking.

Fourth Teaching
There is power in affirmative prayer which we believe increases our connection to God.

Fifth Teaching
Knowledge of these spiritual principles is not enough. We must live them.
