Christmas Giving Tree

giving tree graphic.jpg

The Christmas Giving Tree has been placed in the sanctuary for the season. The envelopes on the tree list items that your giving supports. This year we have expanded beyond items and services to gratitude. Many envelopes include what you might be grateful for, like Rev Edith’s Sunday talks. If these move you please contribute in gratitude for them. You will also see a few envelopes in support of paying salaries. This is an acknowledgment that salaries make up the bulk of our expenses and give you the opportunity to show appreciation for our minister and staff.

If you are at church on Sunday you can find envelopes that resonate with you, add a check or cash to the envelope and put it in the box next to the tree. There is a QR code on the back of the envelope that will take you to the online giving form. You can also participate online by clicking on one of the buttons below.

Labyrinth Walk

labyrinth copy.png

You are invited to come and walk the labyrinth at Unity of Gaithersburg on Friday, Dec. 27, between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. There is no sign-up form and you may come whenever you wish during the four-hour period ending at 11:00 p.m.

The labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world. Labyrinths have long been used as meditation and prayer tools. A labyrinth is an archetype with which we can have a direct experience. We can walk it. It is a metaphor for life's journey. It is a symbol that creates a sacred space and place and takes us out of our ego to "That Which Is Within." Unity’s labyrinth is laid out in the middle of the sanctuary floor.

Jane McCarthy, LUT will be teaching this SEE class in frpm 2-4 pm on January 18, 25, February 1, 8 and 22, 2025. The class will taught on Zoom. The class tuition is $80. If the course is being taken for UWSI credit there is an additional $45 fee.

In this course, students will use the Gospels and other literary sources outside of the Christian Scriptures to learn concepts that Jesus taught and the methods he used to teach his disciples. Students will learn these teachings based on what we believe Jesus taught rather than what others taught about him and his work. The quest for the historical Jesus will be discussed helping to better understand the Gospels propagating the theology rather than the history of Jesus. Writings outside of the Gospels such as the Nag Hammadi texts will be examined to provide a closer look at the teachings of Jesus.
